Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 children from a poor family kids who would grow together eventually, learned very early on how to conquer of her difficulties with her incredibly vibrant imagination. Before she could read and write she began to compose her own songs. After 8 years of age, she was playing her first guitar. When she was 11 years old she started singing at Knoxville Tenn's local radio station. Gold Band Records is a small label that is independent. She made a name for herself locally while still at high school, but wanted to perform on a larger stage. After graduating high school in 1964 she moved straight to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer to join his syndicated show in the years prior to this. Parton took the offer and in the year 1967, she signed with RCA Records in 1968 and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. Parton quit the Wagoner's band in 1974 after her own hits such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene outsold the collaborations. Parton recorded "I Will Always Love You" in support of Wagoner just after the pair split. The track hit the top spot at No. Its first appearance at the top spot was in 1974.
