Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a popular public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit site for education that investigates the representation of women in pop culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. Destroying stereotypes about women are her primary goals. In addition, Sarkeesian highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities which have been marginalized. Sarkeesian has a degree in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaking. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was founded in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian, university student who has been fascinated by issues that concern gender and feminism for quite a long time. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by the internet campaign. The attack did not deter her instead it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women in pop media narratives.
